Recovering your reputation after a public mistake.
I honestly don’t care if you misspoke and accidentally offended people, you dropped your pants in public or you posted the wrong selfie all over the internet - this is your story now. Own it.
That’s weak bullshit. Stand up and say it loud - yeah, I did that. Take a deep breath and take responsibility. It’s not going to feel good, but it is the first step to getting yourself back on track.
A sincere, genuine apology. No buts. No explanations. No excuses. Don’t say it like you mean it, say it because you mean it.
Share what you’ve learned and your plan for moving forward and making sure it never happens again. Oh, look, we’re growing.
People don’t want a long-winded story about how everything went wrong and - really - you’re the victim. Fuck off. They want to know that you’ve reflected on your mistake and are taking action as well as accountability. Keep it simple, honest, and brief.
Take the actions. Show that you are better than your mistake. Work in silence. They’ll be watching. Be patient - it’ll take time, but your slip up will become old news and your story will move onto the next chapter
Reading is tough. Rest your weary eyes on this moving picture instead.
